Generic panning tools for MAX/MSP
نویسنده
چکیده
Vector base amplitude panning (VBAP) is a generic method for virtual source positioning. It generalizes the pair-wise panning paradigm to triplet-wise panning paradigm, which can be used in three-dimensional loudspeaker setups. The VBAP implementation in MAX/MSP software presented in this paper is a powerful tool to produce spatialized computer music pieces that can be presented with di erent loudspeaker setups. Virtual sources are positioned by de ning the virtual source directions as (azimuth, elevation) coordinates. The spread of the virtual sources can also be controlled.

DBAP - Distance-Based Amplitude Panning
Most common techniques for spatialization require the listener to be positioned at a “sweet spot” surrounded by loudspeakers. For practical concert, stage, and installation applications such layouts may not be desirable. Distance-based amplitude panning (DBAP) offers an alternative panningbased spatialization method where no assumptions are made concerning the layout of the speaker array nor th...
متن کاملComposability for Musical Gesture Signal Processing using new OSC-based Object and Functional Programming Extensions to Max/MSP
An effective programming style for gesture signal processing is described using a new library that brings efficient run-time polymorphism, functional and instance-based object-oriented programming to Max/MSP. By introducing better support for generic programming and composability Max/MSP becomes a more productive environment for managing the growing scale and complexity of gesture sensing syste...
متن کاملJava Music Specification Language and Max/MSP
Java Music Specification Language (Didkovsky, Burk 2001) is a Java package for algorithmic music composition, notation, and interactive performance. Max/MSP (Puckette, Zicarelli) is a graphical environment for music, audio, and multimedia. The introduction of a Java API to Max/MSP offers new possibilities for rich interaction between JMSL and Max. This paper presents new tools for bidirectional...
متن کاملDeveloping Tools for Studying Musical gestures within the Max/MSP/jitter Environment
We present the Musical Gestures Toolbox, a collection of Max/MSP/Jitter modules to help in qualitative and quantitative analysis of musical gestures. Examples are shown of how the toolbox is used for studying musical mimicry, such as ”air piano” performance, and expressive gestures of musicians.

This paper presents iEAR, a flexible spatial audio rendering tool for use with photorealistic monoscopic and stereoscopic panoramas across various display systems. iEAR allows users to easily present multichannel audio scenes over variable speaker arrangements, while maintaining tight integration with the corresponding visual elements of the display media. Built in the Max/MSP Audio Programming...
